"Current Status of NEC E316 E 606 unlocking
This is to stop all the repeat, unnecessary, inaccurate, postings on here about the E313 E316.
Heres the current status.
To unlock a 2g or 2.5g SIM card on an E313 E316 do the following :-
1) Put a 2G/2.5G Simcard into the phone and turn ON the phone.
2) Enter the following code into the phone (xxxxxxxx = any numbers, If the phone does not ask for a code after entering the #4960* part then this method will not work for you)
#4960*xxxxxxxx#
*4960*xxxxxxxx*xxxxxxxx#
3) Turn the phone OFF and ON again.
Remember the xxxxxxxx you used. You will need to use same code in the future.
You do NOT have to do this every time you switch the phone on.
Attention:
- This unlock method ONLY works with one Simcard. If you wish to change to another Simcard you will have to unlock again using this same code!
- This method only works on some firmware versions. (WORKS ON
SW ACPU:E21.43.04
CCPU:C623 R06
WHICH SEEMS TO BE THE CURRENT SOFTWARE VERSION DOING THE ROUNDS IN THE UK)
The code only works on phones manufactured up to March this year (UNKNOWN IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT – SEEMS DOUBTFUL TO ME THOUGH AS THIS WOULD HAVE REQUIRED NEC TO DO A HARDWARE CHANGE ON A BRAND NEW PHONE)

If you do this too many times (3 seems about right) when you switch the phone on it states ‘PLEASE INSERT CORRECT USIM CARD’
What you need to do here is the 112 trick.
112 Trick :-
Switch on phone
Hit the Emrgy key
Dial 112 and hit send
Phone will say it needs to switch to 3g mode
Hit Ok
After phone had switched to 3g (hourglass stops turning) hit cancel to stop it phoning 112
Enter your 8 digit password (any 8 numbers seem to work here)
Phone will now go to your 2g/2.5g network
YOU MUST DO THIS EVERY TIME YOU SWITCH THE PHONE ON.

The NEC unlocking software found on this site is useless. All it does is generate an 8 digit password. Don’t download it, just create a password of your own. Its easier.

What functions do I loose when I unlock the SIM
This seems to vary between service providers and countrys.
“Jankovic based in Croatia states :-
I personal Unlock about 20 Piece E616 On that way Phone work OK Camera Messages etc... “
However lots of Uk phones won’t send SMS, and contacts won’t work. No-one in the UK can send MMS messages. SMS may depend on your service provider, mine worked the first time I used the 4960 method with a vodaphone sim, but now doesn’t after sim unlocking using an o2 sim
However, another UK user got the following results :-
”Phone can make calls
Contacts can be saved to phone
SMS works
Camera takes pics & video
Following features do not work
Can't send MMS
Can't send or receive video calls
Can't send emails
Can't access WAP”

You CAN’T revert back to 3G after using 4960

How can we advance this.
If the Croatian software allows full functionality after 4960 method, flashing the UK phones with the Croatian software may be a way. However, we’ll need the software to enable flashing (ie something like FREIA on the siemens), it’ll depend on whether the Croatian software allows English! It’ll depend if this software works in the Uk.
Its known that 3 can unlock these using a code at a price.
This could be the same solution as Motorola use, where the codes are held on a server and Motorola charge for access to the server. No imei unlocking software exists for the Motorola cos no ones developed it yet. Same could apply to the NEC.
Writing a script to try to unlock the SP and network lock with all 99,999,999 combinations is another possibility that would take days, if not weeks, to work."
